Cholesterol is a fat like substance that is produced by the liver and absorbed through foods.

There are two types of cholesterol that most doctors will talk about and this includes the high density Lipoproteins (or HDL) and low density lipoproteins (or LDL).

The HDL type is what people refer to as the "good" cholesterol because it actually is helpful to the body and under normal circumstances; it helps you get rid of the LDL cholesterol. The job of the good cholesterol in the body is to take excess bad cholesterol (LDL) to the liver, where it can be broken down and then will leave the body. LDL is actually not needed by your body at all from foods. Our bodies make enough of this kind of cholesterol on its own. It is the LDL cholesterol that hurts our hearts, not the HDL cholesterol, which actually helps our hearts be reducing the amount of LDL cholesterol in the body.

Generall the LDL is the kind that many people refer to as the "bad" cholesterol because it is the one that cause the buildup of plaque. LDL stands for low-density lipoproteins. Because this substance has a low density, it does not flow through the blood stream as readily as it should. The red blood cells easily release the LDL cholesterol and it sticks to the walls of your blood vessels, especially in the arteries leading to your heart. This is bad for a number of reasons. When you overflow your body with LDL, it is more difficult for these proteins to work the way they should. It builds up on blood vessel walls and this is it's danger. The more of this type that you have in your body, the greater risk you are for heart disease.

The high levels of cholesterol in the body are happening more often now than ever before. This is because of the variety of food offered now in the grocery and in restaurants. The person can still recover from this by eating foods that are not high in saturated fats. Cholesterol is the most important thing when it comes to eating heart-healthy foods.

You can control your cholesterol level in a good condition through regular medical checking, healthy-food taking and good exercising.
